Fibre Optic cabling provides a far greater bandwidth than copper and is typically used for backbone connection between localised networking equipment and is increasingly becoming the preferred choice for high quality and reliable analogue and digital communications.

Although its higher cost can be prohibitive for desktop applications, fibre optic cabling provides a high security link, with immunity from electromagnetic interference (EMI). It is also the solution for inter-building links and other connections beyond the maximum 90m for Category 5e copper cabling.

BP Communications Ltd is a Corporate Member of the Fibre optics Industry Association ( FIA ) and carries out the installation, testing & maintenance of Fibre Optic systems including Fusion Splicing & Termination of multimode & singlemode fibre cables, both internal & external work including repair work.

All types of fibre optic cabling systems are offered including:

Multimode 62.5/125 (OM1) Datacomms
Multimode 50/125 (OM2) Video & Datacomms Systems
Multimode 50/125 (OM3) Gigabit Ethernet an 10 Gig Ethernet for up to 300m
Singlemode 8/125 (OS1) Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gig Ethernet for up to 2km.
All cables are internal/external grade.

Our Fibre Optic termination and testing service is offered to corporate end users as well as other communication providers who prefer to use our skilled services rather than invest in expensive test equipment and costly engineer training. Both methods of termination are offered either direct
termination or fusion splicing of pre manufactured pigtail assemblies.
Optical Loss Test Equipment (OLTS)

All fibre installations are tailored to individual’s current network requirements with expansion and future proofing built in to the overall design. A range of individual high class products are available including all connectors and panels. Within the standard 2.5mm ferrule range ST and SC type connectors and the new small form factor (SFF) connector range LC, MT-RJ and the SG (VF-45) are used.

ST, SC and LC Connectors

We have the facility to test both Multimode & Singlemode types of fibre using the Anritsu 9076 Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) test equipment or Power Meters as preferred. On completion of work, full test documentation can be provided using Emulation software, electronically in pdf format if preferred.

OTDR Testing

Fibre splicing work is carried out using the Type 65 Sumitomo fusion splicer, a high technology fusion splicer which can be used for all types of splicing (Multimode & Singlemode), in almost any environment (even outdoors).
